Love Conscious Human Newsletter August 2022

Sep 01, 2022

Hey there amazing human!

The Team at Love Conscious Human is excited to share some new recommendations and exciting updates for the Month of August.

As Dr. Teri likes to say, "personal development training makes everyone an altruist." Our theme this month is equanimity, and our recommendations are targeted to help you understand some of the foundations Love Conscious Human was built upon.

The Buddha teaches that there are four sublime attitudes we should cultivate in our relationships with self and others: Love/Loving Kindness, Compassion, Sympathetic Joy, and Equanimity.

"Equanimity is one of the most sublime emotions of Buddhist practice. It is the ground for wisdom and freedom and the protector of compassion and love. While some may think of equanimity as dry neutrality or cool aloofness, mature equanimity produces a radiance and warmth of being. The Buddha described a mind filled with equanimity as “abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility and without ill-will.”" -Insight Meditation Center

August Streaming Recommendation!

Amend is available to stream on Netflix. Hosted by Will Smith, this show looks into the lost history of America, and the fight for Human Rights in the United States. This show explores the 14th Amendment, commonly known to give us "equal protection under the laws". As it turns out, this Amendment is the most enduring hallmark of democracy.

No one can be truly happy when their existence or lifestyle is directly responsible for the suffering of others. It's no secret that we live in a broken world. How do we fix things we didn't break? How do we improve the system we were born into, that we didn't design?

Our Team sincerely recommends giving this show a watch. It looks into the evolving, sometimes lethal fight for equal rights for all humans, something we hold very dear at Love Conscious Human.

Bonus Streaming Recommendation!
Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America is also available for streaming on Netflix. In this documentary, civil rights lawyer Jeffrey Robinson takes us through the timeline of anti-black racism in America. This sobering film forces us to confront skeletons we prefer to keep in the closet, things we don't learn in every history class, the things people would rather forget. The injustice long suffered by African Americans in this country is part of our history.  Racism has been delicately woven into our tapestry, it's as American as apple pie. While the subject is indeed a grim reality, this film also gives us power and hope. While we can never erase the generational pain and trauma that the black American experience cultivates, being informed gives us the power to know better. It is our duty as human beings to use that knowledge and the power it brings to prevent us from making the same mistakes.

"Those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it."

-George Santayana

August Book Recommendation!

The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz is a guide to personal freedom, based on teachings and beliefs of the Toltec, known through southern Mexico as "women and men of knowledge". Similar to the Buddhist sublime attitudes, this book is a roadmap to living a more fulfilled life.

When it comes down to it, these beliefs help support the Love Conscious Human mission, and vice versa. Our goal is to raise the state of human consciousness, ultimately influencing as many people as possible to operate from Love Consciousness. From this mindset, we don't see the world as "us vs. them" or identify anybody as "the other". Here, we make decisions based on respect and love for everything around us: people, planet, and existing life in general.

Destruction of our planet and its inhabitants is the result of a War Conscious society and system. In this mindset, where we are separate from our fellow humans, it's easy to make decisions that result in bad outcomes for "the other".

The simple truth is, there is no "other". We are all connected, whether we like it or not. The way we do business, the way we treat each other, the way we treat our home when we operate from War Consciousness will be our downfall.

This brings us back to our mission and our theme for this month: Equanimity. In truth, Equanimity is part of what we refer to as "Love Consciousness". A mind filled with equanimity (or for our purposes, Love Consciousness), is "abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility and without ill-will." We should all seek to exist in this state of mind. We want to prevail in a world where all humans truly are created equal, where every heart radiates warmth and joy prospers.

Are you with us on this mission?

It's finally here...
